Apollonia is a very beautiful classic yawl with stunning lines guaranteed to turn heads wherever she is moored.
She was hauled out after the 2023 Antigua Classic Yacht regatta and will be launched in time for the Regatta in 2024.
Built by John de Dood in Germany in 1963 to a design by Bill Tripp who is remembered for designing very pretty boats that sailed better than their ratings would suggest.
Originally named Wappen Von Bremen she was built as one of two sister ships commissioned by two competing sailing clubs in Hamburg and Bremen and completed a number of Atlantic races.
She is built of double planked mahogany over cedar on oak frames with manganese bronze fastenings, teak soles on oak floors, teak laid decks over laminated and glassed marine plywood, and is fitted with an exquisite mahogany interior.
Her accomodation provides five berths in two forward cabins plus the spacious saloon, with one head and a fitted galley with oven, hob and fridge.
Twenty years ago Apollonia underwent a total restoration and has been the subject of much tlc since then including some replanking in Grenada in 2014 and hull repairs after hurricane Irma passed over the BVI in 2017, undertaken by a team of experts flown to the BVI under the guidance of a very experienced owner.
During the restoration the majority of the hull planking and many of the frames were replaced, together with the soles and bearers, the cockpit, coamings, the entire deck, and many of the interior fittings. The spars were replaced with aluminium and she was re-rigged and equipped with a suite of cruising sails.
New Yanmar engine recently installed.
